Limited Range of Motion

Neck

You reach for a high shelf, turn to look behind you, or tip your head back, and the movement stops before it should, with stiffness or a catch at the end.

What it is

When movement is restricted, specific muscles are often holding it back: shortened, guarding, or bracing after an injury. Measuring range of motion is central to PNMT, so a movement that stops short is one of the clearest things to assess and track.

What makes it worse

Restriction often gets worse when you stop using the area after an injury, when protective guarding outlasts the original problem, and with long postures that keep a muscle shortened. The less the joint moves, the more stuck it tends to get.

How PNMT helps

Your therapist measures the restricted movement before, during, and after the work, so you can both see progress. Treatment is precise work on the specific muscles that test as limiting you, guided by your feedback. If the restriction looks like a joint or structural problem, your therapist will say so and refer you on.

What to expect & how long

Because the movement itself is the measure, you can usually feel how much farther you can move from one visit to the next. A recent restriction usually needs fewer visits. Movement that has been locked up for a long time generally needs a longer series of focused work.

What clients say

I came in to Somavida with some pretty profound limitations, but even after my first appointment they had helped me to significantly increase my range of motion and ease my discomfort. Their team is so professional and supportive, highly knowledgeable and they really emphasize a patient-led treatment. An all around excellent experience, I will continue to use Somavida in the future for all of my body maintenance!

Al and Sarah have returned to me my neck, shoulder, and back range of motion, relieved me of migraines, and gotten me to a place where I have begun exercising again. I had no idea some of the problem areas I had were simply muscle issues. I thought for sure I had chronic vertebrae and bone issues. Nope! Feel so much younger and stronger and freer!
